Pert Chart showing as the WPs activities interrelate within the APACE project.
WP1 takes care of the project management, WP8 oversees the communication and dissemination activities. A portfolio work package (WP7) will take care of integrating APACE within the other projects of the Challenge. The scientific and technical work is organized in five dedicated WPs. WP2 - Extraction/preparation of the antennae complexes: natural antennae from purple and green sulfur bacteria and cyanine dye artificial antennae will be prepared. WP3 - Design and synthesis of the lasing units: lasing units based on molecular systems and doped NCs will be fabricated; WP4 - Supramolecular gain medium: the antenna complexes and the lasing units will be combined to create different kinds of gain media with optimal energy transfer efficiency; WP5 - Micro-laser device: the performance of the gain medium will be analyzed and the effectiveness of antenna complexes in lowering the lasing threshold of the medium will be established; WP6 - Sunlight pumped laser (SPL): the SPL prototype will be built and tested at different solar irradiation concentrations and temperatures. Using a solar simulator, the SPL will be tested also under extraterrestrial irradiation.
